What's That? December 2018
December brings some great announcements in the world of Economic Development, but in case you missed some of the latest news, here's a few new things you might see and wonder about as you are driving around the city!
Del Taco opening soon at The Market at Estrella Falls
Del Taco at the Market at Estrella Falls
Del Taco plans to open this location in late December 2018 to early January 2019 at The Market at Estrella Falls, north of the NEC of McDowell Road and Pebble Creek Parkway.
The fast-food restaurant offers a unique variety of both Mexican and American favorites such as burritos and fries, prepared fresh in every restaurant's working kitchen with the value and convenience of a drive-thru. Del Taco's menu items taste better because they are made with quality ingredients like fresh grilled chicken and carne asada steak, hand-sliced avocado, hand-grated cheddar cheese, slow-cooked beans made from scratch, and creamy Queso Blanco.
The brand's UnFreshing Believable® campaign further communicates Del Taco's commitment to provide guests with the best quality and value for their money. Founded in 1964, today Del Taco serves more than three million guests each week at its more than 550 restaurants across 14 states.
Starbucks stand-alone restaurant and drive-thru location opening in Goodyear
Although Goodyear has many Starbucks Coffee locations throughout the city, this location will be the first in Goodyear to have both the relaxed interior seating, as well as a quick and easy drive-thru to get your coffee fix on the go.
The new location will be in the Cobblestone Creek development on Pebble Creek Parkway just north of McDowell Road. Construction of the new 2,400-square-foot stand-alone coffee restaurant will include a drive-thru, outdoor patio of 300-square-feet, parking, and drive isles. Anticipated opening is early 2nd quarter 2019.
UPS Expansion at PV303
UPS Phase 2
If you have ever driven down Indian School Rd near the Loop 303 you would be amazed at the size and allure of the new UPS facility in Goodyear, Arizona. It's very impressive to say the least!
In spring 2017, UPS purchased the 618,000-square-foot spec building in the PV303 master-planned business park located off Indian School Road and Loop 303. That year, the building was used as an overflow site for the busy holiday shipping season. However, UPS’s vision to expand the facility is now becoming a reality as they work to increase the size of the original spec building to over 970,000-square-feet.
The full scope of the Phase 2 also includes site development south of the existing private drive, as well as minor modification to the west side adjacent to the 303. The expansion includes a stand-alone customer service building with main employee entrance, employee and customer parking, auto wash building, auto service building, truck fueling islands, and truck circulation with trailer parking. The main truck exit will be a private drive at the intersection of Charles Boulevard and Sarival Avenue with traditional truck queuing, guardshack, and security gates.
The total development resides under the UPS address of 16601 West Sells Drive which sits on +/- 138 acres.
Currently, the operation is partially up and running with additional interior improvements for the 2018 season, however UPS plans to have the facility fully operational by late 2019. Over time, the entire UPS campus will be staffed with approximately 1,500 employees.

What is that new building along Loop 303 between Sub-Zero and Dick's Sporting Goods?
Recently Ball Corporation opened its newest manufacturing facility right here in Goodyear, Arizona. This facility was Goodyear's largest capital investment made by any company to date. Ball opened for production in spring of 2018, and currently employ 145 team members. They are currently producing over 9 million aluminum beverage cans per day with a goal of over 15 million daily. But where do they put all those cans, you ask? Great question!
Another $5.4 million dollars is being invested by Merit Partners to build a 160,000-square-foot warehouse that sits directly east of Ball’s manufacturing facility, along the Loop 303 freeway in the PV303 master-planned business park. This warehouse will store 129,600,000 cans daily until they are shipped to their next destination to be filled, sealed and finally, sent to market for you — the consumers!
