Guided by their values, their promise and commitment to make each guest feel like family, Colados Coffee & Crepes, a local family-owned coffee and crepe shop is opening a second location in Goodyear, Arizona. The space was previously occupied by Panera Bread, on the southeast corner of McDowell Road and Pebble Creek Parkway.

Colados Coffee & Crepes opened its first location in the West Valley in January 2014. The unique coffee brewing process is a cultural flavor that cannot be found in a traditional "chain" coffee house. Their sweet and savory crepe dishes are made with fresh ingredients along with creative renditions of the traditional French flair.  However, their success story only came about because of some bad luck, a family tradition and a trip to Paris.

In the spring of 2013, Berni and Yesica Reina both were laid off from their jobs after 18 years of service. Confidently, Berni reassured his three children that everything would be okay. And, through hard work and dedication, less than a year later the family’s bad luck turned into a thriving West Valley business.

As a child, Berni was taught by his mother how to make coffee using cloth filters the same way their ancestors did, a process called Colado.  As his children grew, he passed on the techniques. Colado became part of their lives too.  According to his son Arron, “It is more than just a coffee. It is a conversation. [And] at the end of the day, the coffee brought us all together.”

It’s with the togetherness that during a trip to Paris, the Reina family discovered and fell in love with the French style crepe cuisine. They knew right then, they needed to bring this same taste back home to share with their family and friends – and this is how the Colados story began.

Colados offers a variety of crepes, salads, teas, smoothees, ice cream, and iced, hot, and blended coffee. If you ask Berni what the top selling dish is he will tell you, “hands down it’s the Nutella Crepe!” He goes on to say “for a morning eye-opener, the Chipotle Crepe with bacon and egg is a must.” There are also seasonal favorites like the Seasonal Pumpkin Crepe, Pumpkin Matcha Tea Latte, and Pumpkin Spice Latte in the fall and the red velvet crepe for Valentine’s Day. The selection of beverages include favorites such as the original Café Colado, or the White Chocolate Helado, Iced Caramel Macchiato, and Pina Colada Smoothee.

The family is excited for the next chapter in growing their small business. The new 4,500 square foot space will provide west valley customers an alternative to their existing 1,200 square foot location. They expect to have 25 employees with approximately half of them as full-time positions. An anticipated soft opening is planned for late September and an official Grand Opening celebration in October.

The Reina family’s dream does not end with the Goodyear location. They plan to open a Phoenix location in early 2020 and have already purchased the location at 7th Street and Oak.
