Goodyear a Hot-Spot for Culver’s Franchisee
Sports and the beautiful spring weather lured Greg Landon to the West Valley. Business opportunity convinced him to stick around.
A Culver’s franchisee in Wisconsin and Illinois, Landon – along with his wife, Darlene, and daughter, Jacqui – opened a Culver’s in Avondale in 2012 and Buckeye in 2016. Now Landon, who owns a home in Estrella Mountain Ranch, plans to bring the restaurant’s trademark ButterBurgers and Fresh Frozen Custard to Goodyear this summer.
“To me, Goodyear is becoming the economic center of the West Valley,” Greg says. “I love the infrastructure it has created, from road structure to grid system, and there was a lot of empty land.”
The Landons broke ground in mid-January at 130 N. Estrella Parkway, just south of Van Buren Street. The 6,314-square-foot building will be the largest Culver’s west of the Mississippi, housing not only a restaurant but also a community room, the Arizona headquarters for the Landons’ business and a training facility for employee orientation and management training. (The latter reflects the Landons’ preference for promoting from within.) It also will feature an 800-square-foot patio and a drive through.
“I patiently waited for the right opportunity in Goodyear,” Greg says. That opportunity came with the groundbreaking for the city’s new recreation campus, which will be just south of the new Culver’s, providing a steady flow of traffic.
Founded in Sauk City, Wisconsin, Culver’s has restaurants in 25 states, including 32 in Arizona.
ButterBurgers are made with 100% fresh, 85% lean ground chuck, cooked to order and served on a lightly buttered toasted. Its Fresh Frozen Custard includes the finest dairy, plus cold-pressed vanilla and Dutch-blend chocolate. Wonderfully luscious and rich, it contains less air so it’s creamier and more decadent than ordinary ice cream. And because it’s served at a temperature that won’t freeze the taste buds, the flavor lasts longer. Culver’s makes every batch fresh, right in the restaurant, throughout the day.
While Culver’s is famous for ButterBurgers and Fresh Frozen Custard, its menu offers a variety of choices: hand-battered North Atlantic Cod, a Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Beef Pot Roast, Butterfly Jumbo Shrimp, genuine Wisconsin Cheese Curds and seasonal sweet-and-summery Lemon Ice, among other options.
