Dreams are coming true in the nation's ninth-fastest growing city. Today, hundreds were in attendance at Goodyear Civic Square Park at GSQ for the big reveal from city leaders, Trader Joe's and the project development team.

The crowd counted down as a sign reading, "Dreams Really Do Come True, Trader Joe's is Coming to Goodyear!" was revealed. The moment was met with applause and a celebratory cheer from the Desert Edge High School cheer squad and marching band.

“Goodyear couldn’t be more thrilled that Trader Joe’s has chosen to come to our great city,” said Mayor Joe Pizzillo. “This really is a dream come true for so many of our residents who’ve been asking for this unique grocer for many, many years. It’ll be located in the heart of our growing downtown and will be the perfect addition. This announcement of Trader Joe’s is a testament to where we are going as a city and that the most sought-after businesses are choosing to locate in Goodyear.”

Since 2017 when the city began conducting surveys asking residents which businesses they want in Goodyear, the number one most requested grocer in every survey has been Trader Joe's.

“I'm thrilled to lead the opening of Trader Joe's in Goodyear and to become part of a community that has shown such enthusiastic support,” said Chris Warren, store captain at the future Goodyear Trader Joe’s. “This location is a great fit for Trader Joe's, surrounded by growth, development and a strong sense of community. We're excited to bring our unique products and hire more local, friendly crew to serve as Goodyear's neighborhood grocery store.”

The city's love for the specialty grocer runs deep. In 2019, then Mayor Georgia Lord proclaimed Dec. 13 as, "We Want Trader Joe's Day in Goodyear." Hundreds of residents gathered together on a cold winter morning to sign petitions asking the grocer to come. They even made signs and wore shirts proclaiming their love for the company. In a social media campaign, the city produced a humorous music video highlighting the lengths residents would go to get Trader Joe's products. In 2022, the city held a four-hour 55th birthday party for Trader Joe's which was livestreamed to residents on social media. Hundreds of residents put virtual candles on the wall-sized birthday cake begging for the grocer to come to Goodyear.

“The community has long voiced their desire for a Trader Joe’s in Goodyear and it’s been rewarding to bring that vision to life,” said George Getz, President and co-CEO of Globe Corp. “Its arrival at GSQ underscores the caliber of this development and affirms our shared commitment with RED Development to shaping a vibrant, thoughtfully curated urban core that reflects the aspirations of the city and its residents.”

As part of today's celebration, Trader Joe's brought some of their signature snacks for the community to enjoy. Their store will be located on the northwest corner of McDowell Road and Bullard Avenue in the heart of Goodyear's developing downtown, GSQ. It's not clear when the store will open but construction has begun.
