FLITE Goodyear honors the city's rich history

1300 South Litchfield Road, Goodyear, Arizona 85338

At FLITE Goodyear, the future of the southwest valley, a new landmark stands along Litchfield Road at 33’ tall and 27' wide. This mural is the first in a series of tributes dedicated to Goodyear’s rich history that will be on display at this location.

The print stems from an original painting by local artist, Kimberly Harris and features a close-up of a Goodyear F2G Corsair — a product built here in Goodyear, Arizona by the Goodyear Aircraft Company and a key fixture of the US Navy during the Second World War. The mural is meant to portray the industrial might America showcased in the history of the Goodyear Aircraft Company.

The Goodyear Aircraft Company formed in December 1939 as a separate operating division of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. By 1941, the company was on its way to becoming a major defense contractor. During World War II, the division built Corsair airplanes under license and airplane sub-assemblies for more than twenty different aircraft types, as well as building the famous Goodyear blimps for the U.S. Navy. This location and the surrounding buildings are now known as FLITE Goodyear.

FLITE promises to be a destination – embracing modern, hip, and comfortable alternative work environments.  The innovative campus encompasses 198,000 square feet of contemporary, creative office space in a unique, retro setting.  FLITE is a perfect environment for any business, from fortune 500 companies to young tech companies, looking to re-define today’s workplace by promoting worker relationships, idea sharing and collaboration.

"We aimed to highlight FLITE’s long history of ingenuity and future full of potential by placing an iconic aircraft in front of a quintessential Arizona sunrise," said DJ Burton, Development Manager at FLITE Goodyear. “Throughout 2019, we hope to introduce to the community other art installations highlighting the contributions to American technology that were originally conceived and constructed in whole or in part at 1300 South Litchfield Road.”

In conjunction with the water tower that now lights up Goodyear’s technology corridor at night, the Corsair engine is a striking example of Goodyear’s past and shows there is a lot more to talk about in our fair City!
